Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is an independent agency
established by the Energy Reorganization Act of 1974 to regulate civilian
use of nuclear materials. The NRC's primary mission is to protect the
public health and safety, and the environment from the effects of radiation
from nuclear reactors, materials, and waste facilities. The NRC also regulates
these nuclear materials and facilities to promote the common defense and
security.
